Broward County DUIBroward County's alcohol limits are set at the state level. If your blood alcohol content exceeds 0.08% you can expect to be facing at least a misdemeanor (and possibly a felony). Within ten days of being charged with a DUI you can request a hearing to defend your driver's license. If you don't do this you will lose your license for at least six months (and up to two years). If you have been charged with a DUI in Broward County (or really anywhere) you should talk to an attorney about your case. An attorney can ensure that your case is given the attention that it deserves and can help you avoid knee-jerk sentencing by an overworked judge. Finding the right attorney One of the challenges of finding the right attorney is that the attorney who is the best at marketing him or herself is not necessarily the most qualified to handle your case. Just because an attorney can afford a billboard doesn't mean that they are going to get you the best results in the courtroom. The most effective strategy for finding the right attorney is to either find real attorney reviews (meaning they are written by somebody other than the attorney's assistant or friends) or by asking people you know who have been accused of crimes who they have used. You can't always use an attorney's track record to determine how effective they are. Let's say one attorney averages 1 month in jail for a DUI while another attorney averages 2 months. A lot of people think that this means the first attorney is better, but it might actually be the other way around. Maybe the second attorney is better so he takes more difficult cases - maybe if the first attorney had his caseload he would average 3 month jail sentences rather than 2. DUI School After being convicted of a DUI in Broward County you can expect to be required to go to DUI school prior to having your license reinstated. If you fail to do this you may have to start over from scratch getting your license. The specific requirements for your DUI school (and other terms of sentencing) will depend on your prior charges, severity of your offense (BAC level, whether anybody was injured, etc.) and the sentencing judge.
